Roy Hughes

Roy Hughes
Sergeant First Class Roy Hughes is a member of the Army National Guard and a long time Bloomington resident.
Roy and his wife Marcia brought their children Kristen, Kaliegh and Keith to MCMA for classes in 1996. After watching their classes Roy decided to sign himself up. From then on he, he says, he was hooked.
In September of 2002 Roy earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and four years later made it to second degree black belt. His current training goal is to gain proficiency in arts that emphasize grappling and weapons.
Roy currently teaches evening classes at MCMA, and runs a satellite program at Light House Christian Academy.
Among the many black belts he trained under, Roy credits MCMA instructors Shelley Sallee and Jason Anderson for inspiring him the most during his long hard road towards black belt. Shelly was a constant source of encouragement for him. Jason developed him as a fighter, and taught him how to teach others about sparring.
One of the funniest stories at MCMA involves Roy's son, Keith. At age four Keith attended Mrs. Scott's "Mighty Mites" class. As Roy drove him home from his first class Roy asked him if he liked the class. Keith said he did. Roy asked him if Mr. Scott taught his class.
"No," Keith answered. "Mr. Scott's mother."
Roy says, "MCMA is more than a Martial Arts training facility, we are a family that supports each other--whether in the studio or out of the studio. It is a blessing to be part of the MCMA family, and I plan on being part of the family for many years."
Roy has shown himself to be a loyal family member. We're proud to have him here with us.
